BTC Funding Rate: How to Read Bitcoin Perpetual Funding

Bitcoin (BTC) funding rate is one of the most watched derivatives metrics in crypto. It shows whether traders holding BTC perpetual futures are paying or receiving funding during each settlement interval.

Why BTC funding matters

BTC often attracts heavy leverage. When funding becomes extreme, it can reveal crowded positioning. Positive funding may show strong long demand; negative funding may show aggressive short demand.

How to interpret BTC funding

Do not read the number alone. Compare it with price structure, volume, open interest, exchange spreads and recent market news. A high funding rate in a strong uptrend can persist, while high funding during a failed breakout can become risky.
