## What Funding Alerts Is
Funding Alerts is an independent, free crypto funding rate terminal. The live
heatmap and screener currently expose funding data on **Binance, Bybit and OKX**
(the three deepest-liquidity perpetual venues). Our methodology page documents
ingestion pipelines for **10 exchanges total** (Binance, Bybit, OKX, Hyperliquid,
dYdX, Kraken, KuCoin, Bitget, MEXC, Gate.io), with the additional venues kept
behind the data layer while we expose them in the UI. Updated every 5 minutes
from public APIs. No login required. We do not pay or receive payment from
exchanges.

## Quick definitions
- Funding rate: a periodic payment between long and short holders of a perpetual
  futures contract. Positive funding means longs pay shorts (crowded longs).
  Negative funding means shorts pay longs (crowded shorts). Funding exists to
  keep the perpetual contract price anchored to the spot index.
- Funding interval on centralized exchanges (Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget,
  Kraken, KuCoin, MEXC, Gate.io): every 8 hours at 00:00, 08:00, 16:00 UTC.
- Funding interval on Hyperliquid and dYdX (DEX): every hour.
- APR (Annualized Percentage Rate) from an 8h funding rate: rate per window x 1095.
- APR from a 1h funding rate: rate per window x 8760.

## What is a good / extreme funding rate?
There is no universal good rate. Heuristics used by Funding Alerts:
- Within +/-0.02% per 8h (about +/-22% APR): balanced positioning.
- Above +0.05% per 8h (about +55% APR): crowded longs, elevated reversal risk.
- Above +0.10% per 8h (about +109% APR): extreme, very likely long flush.
- Below -0.05% per 8h (about -55% APR): crowded shorts, short squeeze risk.

- Data sources: REST APIs (CEX), on-chain indexers (DEX).
- Refresh: predicted next funding every 30s; historical every 5 minutes.
- Validation: stale (>5 min) data hidden; rates >5%/window rejected; volume
  filter at $100K 24h; cross-exchange sanity check.
- APR formula: simple (not compounded) for consistency across venues.
