How to Profit from Cross-Exchange Funding Rate Arbitrage

What is funding rate arbitrage?

Funding rate arbitrage is a delta-neutral trading strategy that profits from the difference in funding rates between exchanges. When the same asset has a higher funding rate on one exchange than another, you can long on the exchange with the lower rate and short on the exchange with the higher rate — collecting the spread every 8 hours without taking on directional price risk.

How does it work?

Let’s say BTCUSDT has a funding rate of 0.05% on Binance and 0.01% on Bybit. You short on Binance and long on Bybit. Every 8 hours, you collect 0.04% (the spread) regardless of whether Bitcoin goes up or down. That’s 0.12% per day or approximately 43% APR on your capital.

Which exchanges are supported?

The strategy works across Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget, Gate.io, Kraken, and Hyperliquid. Each exchange has different funding rates for the same assets, creating multiple arbitrage opportunities at any given time.

How much can you earn?

Typical spreads range from 0.01% to 0.05% per 8-hour cycle. With 900+ trading pairs monitored across 5 exchanges, there are usually 50-100 active opportunities at any time. The key is to find the largest spreads and execute quickly before they close.

Is it risky?

Funding rate arbitrage is one of the lowest-risk crypto strategies because it’s delta-neutral — you don’t care about price direction. The main risks are exchange downtime, withdrawal delays, and execution slippage. Always start with small amounts and test before scaling up.
